Description
This terrace, typical of first-floor apartments in the inner courtyards of Sant Antoni, was transformed from a hard, greenery-free space into a gardened patio designed for family life.
The design combines different flooring materials to create dynamism and varied textures underfoot. Lateral planters in the form of fences provide privacy and frame a hedge of eugenias, which accompanies the first section of the terrace.
The layout includes expansions and setbacks in the planters, generating a sequence of functional spaces: an extension of the living room, an urban vegetable garden, a pergola area, a plant transplanting space, and a storage room with a laundry area. This setup creates an urban oasis that helps mitigate the presence of neighbors.
The project prioritizes functional and sustainable vegetation, selecting plants for their resilience and low maintenance, ideal for the Mediterranean climate. Highlights include callistemons and eugenias, which form green screens, along with rosemary, westringia, and lavender, adding texture, fragrance, and character. Fruit trees like lemon and plum trees bring freshness and an interactive element for the family.
A drip irrigation system delivering 2L per hour optimizes water usage, ensuring healthy plant growth while promoting biodiversity by attracting pollinators and birds.
